The Manitoba government stopped indexing income tax brackets and the basic personal amount by inflation.
That’s called bracket creep and it’s a sneaky way of hiking taxes.
Because of bracket creep, inflation can automatically bump taxpayers into a higher tax bracket and raise their taxes even though they can’t afford to buy more because prices have gone up.
The cost of bracket creep compounds for taxpayers every year because of inflation.
We the undersigned call on the Manitoba government to get rid of bracket creep and return to indexing provincial tax brackets to the rate of inflation.
