OTTAWA, ON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is demanding Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pay back the public for the cost of the $6,000 per night hotel room in London.
“Trudeau should have been upfront with taxpayers about the bill from day one,” said Franco Terrazzano, Federal Director of the CTF. “Struggling Canadians should have never been forced to pay for the lavish luxury hotel suite when there were less expensive options.”
Tonight, news broke it was Trudeau who stayed in the $6,000 per night luxury hotel suite during the Queen’s funeral in London, England last September. The room was booked for five nights for a total of $30,000, according to the Toronto Sun.
“Several top-shelf hotels including The Four Seasons, The Langham, The Savoy, even the Shangri La all offer lower prices than the Corinthia,” according to the Toronto Sun. “The River Suite is promoted as having views of the River Thames and coming with ‘complimentary butler service’ and a guest bathroom.”
The CTF launched a legal challenge with the Office of the Information Commissioner to force the government to disclose who stayed in the River Suite after receiving a response to an access-to-information request that blacked-out Justin Trudeau’s name.
United States President Joe Biden arrived in Canada on Thursday evening.
“Trudeau knew he was going to lose in court and be forced to tell taxpayers the truth, that’s why he’s trying to bury the story just as Biden comes to town,” Terrazzano said. “Trudeau needs to pay taxpayers back.”
