Taxpayers Federation reacts to Parliamentary Budget Office report on carbon taxes

Author: Aaron Wudrick 2020/10/08

OTTAWA, ON: Canadian Taxpayers Federation Federal Director Aaron Wudrick released the following statement in response to today’s Parliamentary Budget Office report on carbon taxes.

“This report makes clear what carbon-tax advocates never want to admit: Canadians are getting the worst of both worlds with higher costs with no significant impact on global climate change.

“Canada is not on track to hit its Paris Accord targets, and additional measures would reduce the size of our economy by more than $10 billion by 2030.

“Canadian families and businesses can’t afford ever-rising carbon taxes – including the Clean Fuel Standard, which will function as a second carbon tax – especially as they continue to struggle through the worst economic downturn since the Second World War.

“The Trudeau government needs to stop pursuing a Pyrrhic victory, and start focusing on getting our economy back on track by making life more affordable for Canadians.”
