Taxpayers Federation granted intervenor status in Ontario carbon tax court challenge

Author: Christine Van Geyn 2019/01/16

TORONTO, ON:  The Canadian Taxpayers Federation has been granted intervenor status in the Ontario court challenge over the Trudeau carbon tax. The challenge will be heard over four days, from April 15 to 18.

“Ottawa’s carbon tax will cost Canadians a lot of money, but it won’t help the environment so we’re going to make a compelling case on behalf of taxpayers in court,” said Christine Van Geyn, the CTF’s Ontario Director. “We are excited to be participating in the court battles in both Saskatchewan and Ontario to give a voice to taxpayers who are against this tax.”

The Ontario Court of Appeal granted intervenor status to fourteen intervenors. The CTF is one of just two of the intervenors are opposed to the federal carbon tax.

“The CTF is the only nonpartisan organization taking a stand in court to oppose the carbon tax, but we know thousands of Canadians across the country are standing with us,” said Van Geyn. “We look forward to advancing arguments in court on behalf of Canadian taxpayers to ensure the punitive and unconstitutional carbon tax is struck down.”
