Victoria B.C. While residents of British Columbia face the highest gas prices in North America, caused by 75 cent/liter taxes, the provincial government’s start of the legislative session offered no sign of relief for taxpayers.
“Premier John Horgan is asleep at the wheel while B.C. residents cannot keep up with his government’s sky-high gas taxes,” said Carson Binda, the B.C. Director for the Canadian Taxpayers Federation who was at the legislative assembly for the throne speech. “If Horgan cut fuel taxes, it would save families $20 every time they fill up the minivan - that’s the cost of a chicken dinner with all the fixings for a family of four.”
“Other provinces are cutting gas taxes and B.C. needs to catch up.”
Around the world, 51 national governments have cut taxes due to record-setting cost of living increases. In addition, provinces across Canada, including Alberta, Ontario and Newfoundland and Labrador have all cut fuel taxes.
“It’s time our government steps up, demonstrates some real accountability and axes the failed gas tax,” said Binda.
