Taxpayers Federation advises drivers not to fill up until Canada Day

Author: Jay Goldberg 2022/06/30

Toronto, ON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is advising Ontario drivers not to fill up their gas tanks until July 1 because that’s when the long-awaited provincial gas tax cut is happening.

“Taxpayers have been demanding gas tax relief and tomorrow the Ford government is finally delivering,” said CTF Ontario Director Jay Goldberg. “This 5.7 cent per litre reduction will provide meaningful relief for families across the province.

“So if your fuel gauge is getting close to empty today, just hold off until tomorrow when you can get a big break on gas taxes.”

The Ford government will reduce the gas excise tax by 5.7 cents per litre tomorrow. The gas tax relief is scheduled to last until Dec. 31, 2022. A family filling up a minivan and a sedan once a week stands to save about $200 during that six month period.

“Four years after Premier Doug Ford made the promise to reduce prices at the pump, he’s finally delivering,” said Goldberg. “This is great news for taxpayers.”
