Toronto, ON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is applauding Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s announcement of a $200 taxpayer rebate for all Ontarians in early 2025.
“Putting more of taxpayers’ money back in their pockets is always a good thing,” said CTF Ontario Director Jay Goldberg. “Ontarians are struggling right now with high prices and it’s good to see the government giving taxpayers some of their own money back.”
Ford announced that every Ontarian will receive a $200 rebate in early 2025. This will impact 12.5 million adults and 2.5 million children. A family of four is set to receive an $800 rebate.
“Today’s rebate announcement, coupled with government’s recent gas tax cut extension announcement, shows this government is putting more money back in taxpayers’ pockets,” said Goldberg. “While these are both positive steps, taxpayers also want to see the Ford government deliver on the kind of permanent income and gas tax relief that it promised in 2018.”
During the 2018 election campaign, the Progressive Conservatives promised a 20 per cent middle class income tax cut and a permanent gas tax cut. The income tax cut has not been introduced and the gas tax cut has only been implemented on a temporary basis.
