Toronto, ON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is applauding the Ford government for extending the province’s 6.4 cent per litre gas tax cut until June 30, 2025.
“This gas tax cut extension a huge win for Ontario taxpayers at a time when struggling families need it,” said CTF Ontario Director Jay Goldberg. “It means the average two-car family will continue to save about $35 a month at the pumps. As taxpayers are facing yet another carbon tax hike by the Trudeau government next spring, Premier Doug Ford is stepping up to the plate and providing relief.”
The Ford government cut the province’s gas tax by 6.4 cents per litre on July 1, 2022. Since then, the average two-car Ontario family has saved nearly $1,000. The tax cut was set to expire Dec. 31, 2024. This is the Ford government’s fourth gas tax cut extension.
“The best thing governments can do to help make life more affordable for taxpayers is to leave more money in their pockets,” Goldberg said. “The typical Ontario family has saved nearly $1,000 at the pumps since this tax cut was first introduced and savings will continue well into next year. Ford is standing up for taxpayers at a time when taxpayers need politicians to cut taxes to make life more affordable.”
Taxpayers have saved more than $2.5 billion since July of 2022 due to the government’s temporary gas tax cut.
