VANCOUVER, B.C.: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is calling on the British Columbia government to cancel the April 1 carbon tax hike.
“Premier David Eby needs to stand up for British Columbians and tell Ottawa he’s not going to raise the carbon tax,” said Carson Binda, B.C. Director for the CTF. “Other premiers are standing up to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Eby needs to do the right thing for taxpayers who can’t afford another carbon tax hike.”
If the tax hike goes through on April 1, Vancouverites will be paying around 81 cents per litre of gasoline in taxes alone.
British Columbians pay the highest tax burden on gasoline and diesel in the country. Other jurisdictions like Quebec and Saskatchewan are refusing to comply with Ottawa’s carbon tax demands. Seven out of ten premiers have now spoken against the carbon tax as well as provincial opposition leaders from all parties.
According to a recent poll by Innovation Research Group, 66 per cent of British Columbians oppose the carbon tax hike, while only seven per cent support it.
“British Columbians can’t afford to pay more for fuel,” said Binda. “Eby needs to decide who he’s working for – normal British Columbians or Trudeau.”
