VANCOUVER, B.C.: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation has released a new poll from Leger showing that six-in-ten British Columbians want the B.C. government to immediately scrap the provincial carbon tax on gasoline and other fuels.
“This new poll shows that Premier David Eby should scrap the carbon tax immediately,” said Carson Binda, B.C. Director for the CTF. “British Columbians pay the highest taxes in the country on a litre of gasoline and it’s time that the Eby government finally gives us some relief.”
The Leger poll asked British Columbians if the provincial government should immediately move to scrap the provincial carbon tax that is applied to gasoline and other fuels.
Results of the poll show:
58 per cent of British Columbians want the provincial government to immediately scrap the carbon tax
25 per cent of British Columbians do not want the provincial government to immediately scrap the carbon tax
18 per cent don’t know
Note: totals may not add up to 100 due to rounding
When undecided respondents are removed, 70 per cent of British Columbians say the province should immediately scrap the provincial carbon tax.
“Now is the perfect time for the premier to show British Columbians that the new government will take affordability seriously by scraping the B.C. carbon tax,” Binda said. “Alberta’s government is challenging the carbon tax in federal courts and Eby should fight the feds in the courts too, if it tries to force British Columbians to pay a federal carbon tax.”
