The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is calling on Nova Scotia Liberal MPs to stick up for their constituents and oppose the federal carbon tax ahead of the next Liberal caucus meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
“The carbon tax has failed Canadians,” said Devin Drover, CTF Atlantic Director. “Even within the Trudeau caucus, we’re seeing MPs pushing back against this misguided policy because the reality is clear: the carbon tax is making life more expensive.”
With news of a potential government caucus revolt brewing in Ottawa over the carbon tax, the CTF held a news conference in front of the office of Halifax West Liberal MP Lena Diab on Monday.
A new report from the Parliamentary Budget Officer found the carbon tax will cost the average Nova Scotian household $228 this year more than the rebates. By 2030, that cost jumps to $580.
The federal government also charges the GST on top of the carbon tax. The PBO report shows this carbon tax-on-tax will cost taxpayers $400 million this year. That money isn’t rebated back to Canadians.
“Unlike other Liberal MPs in Atlantic Canada, Nova Scotia Liberal MPs have not taken a public stand against the federal carbon tax,” Drover said. “It’s time for Liberal MPs like Lena Diab to stand up to Trudeau and fight for their constituents against the carbon tax.”
