OTTAWA, ON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is applauding Canadians for winning the fight against the consumer carbon tax.
“Ordinary Canadians deserve all the credit for pushing the government to end the consumer carbon tax, which will save people a lot of money every time they pay their heating bill or fuel up their car,” said Franco Terrazzano, CTF Federal Director. “The Liberal government didn’t end this carbon tax because it wanted to, it did it because Canadians forced them to.
“Ordinary Canadians who never stopped fighting the carbon tax deserve all the credit for this victory.”
Today, the federal government ended the consumer carbon tax.
The carbon tax cost 17 cents per litre of gasoline, 21 cents per litre of diesel and 15 cents per cubic metre of natural gas.
The carbon tax cost the average family up to $399 more than the rebates they got back, according to the Parliamentary Budget Officer.
The CTF has been the leading advocacy group fighting the carbon tax in the court of law and the court of public opinion from the beginning.
“These politicians would have loved nothing more than to keep cranking up the carbon tax every year, but Canadians never stopped fighting back and they deserve all the credit for today’s victory,” Terrazzano said. “This means taxpayers will save money at the gas station and on their heating bills, but the fight against carbon taxes is not over.
“The government must repeal the carbon tax law and scrap the hidden carbon tax on businesses that will continue to make life more expensive for Canadians.”
