MONTRÉAL, QC : The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is asking the Legault government not to put another taxpayer-funded penny into Bombardier.
“Quebec and Canadian taxpayers have already been plucked numerous times to help Bombardier,” said CTF Quebec Director Renaud Brossard. “Now it’s time to say enough is enough and let Bombardier fly with its own wings.”
According to calculations from the Montreal Economic Institute, Bombardier has already benefitted of more than four billion dollars in taxpayer’s cash since it got its first subsidy in 1966.
Following the last round of subsidies given by the governments of Quebec and Canada, Bombardier hiked executive pay and moved jobs outside the country.
Bombardier’s current troubles are due to a slowdown in the business jet sector.
Earlier this morning, Finance Minister Eric Girard said about Bombardier: “It’s a good company, we want to help them.”
“Let me be clear: what the government says its open to subsidizing today is nothing more than business jet manufacturing,” said Brossard. “Quebecers’ taxes should never be used to help billionaires buy more private jet.”
