Update on the high-flying CRTC Commissioner

Author: Aaron Wudrick 2018/04/10

Last month we introduced you to Stephen B.Simpson, the CRTC’s British Columbia & Yukon commissioner and his preference for expensive flights and suggested maybe he stay home in BC.

Except it turns out maybe his home isn’t even in BC.

We got another tip, so we decided to investigate.

Our tipster suggested that Simpson did not actually live in Vancouver full time as required by his terms of employment, but was instead living at least part of the year in Palm Springs, California.

As this ATIP shows, Simpson does indeed seem to spend a lot of time in Palm Springs:

-on page 9 in an email he describes himself as a “Palm Springs [blanked out]” Resident? Fan? Aficionado?

-on page 10 he notes that he is “splitting his time between Vancouver and southern California” and even mentions he has a US phone number.

-on page 11 he says he is “an hour from L.A. by car.”

-on page 19 he says he’s “happy to attend meetings in both L.A. and San Fran as they are both close.”
