• Cheveldayoff, Moe and Wyant commit to balancing the budget, paying down debt and holding the line on taxes

REGINA, SK: Saskatchewan can’t continue to kick the can down the road with deficits and three Saskatchewan Party leadership candidates today signed the Canadian Taxpayers Federation pledge to balance the budget; implement a debt repayment plan; and, hold the line on taxes.

“It’s unfair and wrong for us to rack up debts and leave them for our kids and grandkids and that means we need to take responsibility for making the tough decisions to balance the budget,” said Todd MacKay, the CTF’s Prairie Director. “It’s great to see Ken Cheveldayoff, Scott Moe and Gord Wyant all making a firm commitment to get the province’s finances back on track.”

Mr. Cheveldayoff, Mr. Moe and Mr. Wyant all signed the following pledge:

If I become Premier of Saskatchewan, I promise that:

I will balance the operational budget in 2019;

I will implement a plan committed to reducing the province’s taxpayer-supported debt by 2022; and,

I will not impose any major tax increases.

“Balancing the budget will take hard work and tough decisions, but procrastinating will only leave us with harder work and tougher decisions,” said MacKay. “The Taxpayer Protection Pledge is an important accountability tool. If one of these candidates becomes premier, we look forward to putting up a billboard reading ‘promise kept’ in a few years, but we’ll be ready with one that says ‘broken promise’ if necessary.”
