HALIFAX, NS: Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) Atlantic Director Paige MacPherson released the following statement in response to Ottawa’s carbon tax announcement this morning:
“Today’s announcement shows that Ottawa is choosing to ignore New Brunswickers’ opposition to the ill-advised carbon tax. Voters across the political spectrum in New Brunswick rejected Ottawa’s carbon tax.
Now Ottawa is trying to buy New Brunswickers off by sending them cheques – but imposing a new tax is not how you save New Brunswickers money. Don’t pee on our legs and tell us it’s raining.
The province has already hit its 2030 emissions reductions targets. New Brunswickers have done their part, and climate change is a global issue. The provincial economy is struggling, and New Brunswick taxpayers already pay some of the highest taxes in Canada.
We should not be making New Brunswick families poorer with a new tax that will have no impact on global carbon emissions. The New Brunswick government should fight for taxpayers and join the other provinces fighting Ottawa’s carbon tax.”
The CTF has long opposed carbon taxes across Canada and will continue to be an aggressive voice for the growing number of Canadians opposed to carbon tax grabs. We invite them to sign the CTF’s petition opposing the federal government’s carbon tax which can be found here: https://www.taxpayer.com/resource-centre/petitions/petition?tpContentId=154”
