When $1,000-a-day man Kevin Desmond takes over TransLink next month, he’ll no doubt get briefed by staff on Canadian Freedom of Information Act rules. Ever wonder what that briefing might be like? Well, here’s an actual email about TransLink’s view of FOI. Two lowlights from that leaked document:
“While public bodies should document their business decisions, there are legitimate times when a phone call or face-to-face dialogue may be more appropriate. Always use your judgement.”
“Emails of a transitory nature should not be retained.”
And TransLink wonders why it has a reputation for being unaccountable?
