BC: Port Alberni frets 2% library hike while raising taxes 6%

Author: Jordan Bateman 2016/02/09

Oh, irony, thy name is City Hall.

Article 1, from the Jan. 14, 2016, Alberni Valley News: “With a proposed six per cent residential property tax hike on the horizon for 2016, the City of Port Alberni is kicking off their public budget process next week.”

So the City of Port Alberni is pondering a 6% property tax hike.

Article 2, from the Feb. 4, 2016, Alberni Valley News: “The Vancouver Island Regional Library is requesting a two per cent increase this year—something that Port Alberni Mayor Mike Ruttan isn’t sure he’s willing to agree to.”

City takes a 6% hike to the people, but frets a 2% library increase.

As a librarian might say, “Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.”
