Tax Hikes Cost Families Between $300 and $4,100

Toronto: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) today responded to Toronto city council's vote lat night to impose two new taxes in Toronto, releasing an impact analysis showing a $698 a year average increase in taxes for a family of four. CTF Ontario Director, Kevin Gaudet, said "Toronto the great is becoming Toronto the taxed. When government takes more from families in taxes, they have less to spend on goods and services in town. This weakens the city."

So far in 2007, Toronto city council have imposed a new garbage tax, a new vehicle registration tax, a new land transfer tax and a 3.8% property tax hike. Next up for council's consideration are a new liquor tax, a new billboard tax and a new sidewalk tax.
