VANCOUVER, B.C.: With just nine days left in the TransLink tax plebiscite vote, the No TransLink Tax campaign today called on NO voters to stop mailing, and start ‘malling.’
“Don’t take the chance your NO vote won’t be counted because of postal glitches – get it to one of the Elections BC offices in the next nine days,” said Jordan Bateman, No TransLink Tax spokesperson. “No more mailing – we need to start ‘malling’ in these ballots.”
More than 654,000 ballots have been sorted by Elections BC, nearly 20 per cent more than the 532,205 cast in the region’s 2014 municipal elections.
All ballots must be received by Elections BC by May 29 – it’s not enough to have them postmarked by that date. For that reason, the No TransLink Tax campaign is recommending that all NO votes now be taken to one of Elections BC’s nine plebiscite offices to ensure the vote is counted:
“The YES side made all the rules in this campaign, including this ridiculously long voting period, because they hoped their $7 million, taxpayer-funded war chest could buy enough votes to push the tax through,” said Bateman. “Fortunately for voters, we have the final say: and the NO vote is continuing to come in strong, right to the last day.”
