Some will remember a previous blog post I did on the new, full-time "Special Envoy" position and office created for retired MLA Bonnie Korzeniowski.

Well, looks like there's more to the story.

It was noted in media reports that Korzeniowski's new office, position and staff support is expected to cost taxpayers $190,000 per year. The obvious question then is - what are we getting for it?

Not much according to Freedom of Information documents.

According to documents obtained by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, Ms. Korzeniowski attended 49 meetings between September 1 and the end of April. Considering her office costs $15,833.33 per month ($190,000 divided by 12) that works out to a whopping $2,261.90 per appearance. No doubt her office takes the odd phone call too, but come on, one can't forget the military is a federal responsibility.

But there's more. I also asked for documentation on bureaucratic recommendations to create the new full time position, office and support staff.

The government's response - it doesn't exist.

The bureaucracy didn't recommend creating the position, the political level did. This is just another example of how there's plenty of fat to cut at the provincial level and another reason why raising the PST is laughable.
