Kudos to Notley for Olympic plebiscite requirement

Author: Colin Craig 2018/03/30

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) praised the Notley government today for its announcement that any provincial funding towards further exploration of a Calgary 2026 Olympic bid would be contingent upon holding a plebiscite.

Just prior to the province’s recent announcement, the CTF held a joint press conference with the Institute for Public Sector Accountability to encourage the public to ask their council members to support an upcoming council motion to hold a plebiscite.

“Hosting the Olympics would cost taxpayers billions of dollars, so it’s important to let the public vote on the matter,” said CTF Alberta Director Colin Craig. “Two thumbs up to the Notley government for agreeing that taxpayers deserve to vote on this important issue.”
