Big Sky Farms received $30 million from the Saskatchewan government over the past 15 years, all but a few coming during the 16-year NDP reign in Saskatchewan. The corporation has been hit hard by low hog prices and oversupply. Big Sky Farms has asked for creditor protection for its $96 million in liabilities. Recently local farmers who may never have their debts paid blockaded the business.
Meanwhile the opposition NDP is asking the province to cover the debts that were owed. On top of all this, the federal government has a program to pay for pig farmers to kill their pigs and end the oversupply. Between paying companies to build pig farms and paying them to kill the pigs, the government has done quite enough, thank you.
What better proof could show that government should not be in business whatsoever? And why at this time, would the province set up Innovation Saskatchewan so that it can throw another $25 million a year towards businesses?
