VANCOUVER, B.C.: A No TransLink Tax campaign supporter has filed a report with the Vancouver Police Department after his No TransLink Tax lawn sign was stolen out of his front yard in Kitsilano Wednesday night, April 8.
The supporter has turned over CCTV footage of the theft to the VPD. In the video, posted HERE, a man looks over the supporter’s fence at the sign. A car comes by, and the individual moves away. A minute later, what appears to be the same individual, comes back, looks around, reaches over the fence, and steals the sign.
“We only had 700 signs for the entire region – just 1 for every 3 square kilometres, but even that was too much of a threat for some YES side supporter to allow,” said Jordan Bateman, spokesperson for the No TransLink Tax campaign.
Over the past few weeks, the No TransLink Tax campaign has had to put up with dozens of signs, and signs seized by municipal bylaw officers or provincial transportation officials in Vancouver, Surrey, Port Coquitlam, Langley City, Langley Township and New Westminster.
“Unlike the YES side and their $7 million government-funded campaign, our signs were paid for by concerned residents to express their concern over this unfair tax being imposed upon everyday taxpayers,” said Bateman. “We’re advising upset NO supporters not to retaliate and deface or remove YES side ads, but rather to convince their neighbours to vote NO to the TransLink tax.”
