Canadian Taxpayers Federation Launches Cut the PST Campaign

Author: 2016/03/16

WINNIPEG, MB: The PST went up even though no party talked about the tax hike in the last election so Fibber, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) accountability mascot, is making taxpayers’ demand for a PST cut front and centre in this campaign.

“Cutting the PST is a key issue in this election and we’re going to have some fun making that point with our friend Fibber the accountability mascot,” said Todd MacKay, the CTF’s Prairie Director. “Taxpayers are demanding that politicians from all parties commit to cutting the PST and Fibber is reminding everyone that it’s important to keep campaign promises.”

Even though no party discussed raising the PST in the last election, the PST went from 7% to 8% in 2013. That change will cost Manitoban taxpayers about $300 million dollars this year. Despite the tax grab, the province’s deficit has soared to $773 million.

“There’s no need for politicians to go digging deeper in taxpayers’ pocket with a PST hike,” said MacKay. “The budget needs to be trimmed so that Manitoban taxpayers don’t have to continually find room in their household budgets to pay ever increasing taxes.”

Fibber will be attending public events for all political parties to demand a PST cut.
