BC: List of tax and fee increases for 2014

It’s our annual year-end tax changes report day, and 2014 is going to be another tough year for British Columbians. Here’s a running list of tax/fee increases:

  • Federal EI employee taxes up $23 (employers’ share up $31)
  • Federal CPP employee tax up $70 (employers’ share up another $70)
  • Canada Post stamps rising to $1
  • B.C. MSP tax up $60 for a family ($36 for an individual)
  • B.C. raises taxes on income over $150,000 from 14.7% to 16.8%
  • BC Hydro rates up $96 for average household
  • ICBC basic insurance rate up $10 for average driver             
  • Property tax increases vary, depending on your city
  • Port Mann Bridge toll doubles to $3 per trip
  • Golden Ears Bridge toll could rise in July, based on CPI
  • BC Ferries halves their weekday seniors discount
  • TransLink eliminates faresavers and payroll pass program

One tiny piece of good news:

  • AirCare fee drops from $45 to $36 (and will continue to drop $2 a month until the program ends at the end of the year)
