Alberta MP Ted Menzies resigning with $51,094 pension

Author: Nick Bergamini 2013/11/06

Ted Menzies, who has represented the Alberta riding of Macleod since 2004, has announced that he will immediately resign his seat in the House of Commons. He will immediately become eligible to collect an annual, indexed to inflation $51,094 pension for life. If he lives until age 90, the average life expectancy of parliamentary pension plan members, he will collect a total of $1,994,035 from the MP pension plan.

Menzies, who was the junior finance minister until the July cabinet shuffle, had originally said he would retire in 2015, when the next federal election is expected.
