$25 Billion Ontario Deficit
Ontario Liberal Finance Minister Dwight Duncan announced a $25 billion deficit, more than twice the old record of $12 billion set by Bob Rae and the NDP in 1992. Kevin Gaudet of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation says that MPPs should cut their own pay and freeze public wages for three years for starters. Tim Hudak Leader of the Opposition Conservatives also blasted the budget. Read more »

Ontario could fund in-vitro (CTV)
An Ontario report recommends anyone, including single moms and lesbians, should receive three free in-vitro fertilization treatments paid for by the provincial government. Kevin Gaudet of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation is concerned that this will take time and money away from more necessary medical care. The report also recommends adoption be made easier. Ontario could fund in-vitro (CBC)
A report recommends that Ontario follow Quebec's lead and fund 3 InVitro fertilization treatments for any woman who wants it, whether single or married, straight or gay. Kevin Gaudet of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation comments that with the dollar shortage and backlog in Canadian health care, funding invitro will mean less dollars for hip replacements or other more necessary procedures. Toronto should refund taxes
Kevin Gaudet of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation says the City of Toronto should refund civic taxes, seeing that there have been no city services for a month. Some councillors dedicated to responsible government agree. Mayor David Miller says they will likely refund user fees for services not given (such as camps and athletic services that were not offered), but not taxes. Read more »
