Calgary Time to fight a 25% property tax hike

Calgary’s city council’s draft three-year budget has proposed a whopping 25% tax hike! This includes a 9.6% tax hike in this year alone -- over two-and-a-half times higher than Calgary’s current inflation rate of 3.7%!

These astronomical tax hikes would be some of the largest in Calgary’s history.

Enough is enough.

Time to fight this 25% tax grab!

Remember, this is a three-year budget, so if you don’t take action now, you won’t get another say until 2011.

Step 1:

Call or e-mail your alderman at 403-268-2430 or alderweb@calgary.ca and tell them to start looking for places to CUT THE FAT!

Step 2:

Call or e-mail the mayor’s office at 403-268-5622 or themayor@calgary.ca and tell him to keep the tax hike below 3.7% for each of the next three years.

Step 3:

Dial 311 – Calgary’s municipal phone service – and tell them you don’t want to pay a 25% tax hike.

Step 4:

Show up at the public budget hearing on Monday, November 17th at 9:30AM at City Hall.

Step 5:

Attend the Budget Open House at City Hall on Saturday, November 15th from 10AM to 3PM.
