Sask Election Spending Tracker Site Launched

Taxpayers Federation Launches SpendingTracker.ca web site to track party spending commitments

REGINA, SK: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation launched www.SpendingTracker.ca today - a web site to keep track of each party's spending commitments during the 2011 Saskatchewan provincial election.

"Every new spending commitment means less money in taxpayers' pockets," said CTF Prairie Director Colin Craig. "We put together SpendingTracker.ca - a web site that taxpayers can visit and see how much each party is promising in new spending."

As of midnight on Tuesday, October 18, each party had committed the following amounts in new spending over the next four years:

NDP:                   $1.227 billion (Cost estimates released for 18 of 32 commitments)
Sask Party:         $298.7 million
Liberal Party:     -$3.376 billion

"We want to see a dollar value affixed to every new spending announcement," continued Craig. "Voters and taxpayers have the right to know how much these campaign promises are going to cost them."

The CTF will be updating the www.SpendingTracker.ca web site daily with any new spending announcements.

In addition to the SpendingTracker.ca web site, the CTF has also sent each party a survey on a number of issues. The responses will be released later in the campaign.
