Ontario public sector $100,000 club grows by 19%

TORONTO: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) responded today to the release of the Ontario Sunshine list of Ontario public sector employees earning $100,000 or more. CTF Federal Director said “to understand why Ontario is running the largest deficit in its history – larger even then California’s – just look at the $100,000 club.”

In three years the number on the list has grown by 91%. From 33,440 in 2006 to 63,837 in 2009. Last year the $100,000 club was 53,572. It has grown by 19% year-over-year. Gaudet said, “the salaries are only the tip of the iceberg for compensation. On top of this are job security and lucrative pensions for life that kick in early.”

“There is an increasing divide between those who work in the private sector and those privileged and protected workers in the public sector. This has to end,” said Gaudet.

Tidbits:

  • 164 people earn over $400,000
  • 1,210 people earn over a quarter of a million dollars
  • In the K-12 education sector including teachers, principals and superintendents there are 7,418 on the list
  • Thomas Mitchell, President of Ontario Power Generation (OPG) earned over $1 million

RE ONTARIO SUNSHINE CLUB

THE ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE ARE NOT ON THIS LIST. WHY?

Reforming the 800 years old political system

To reform the 800 years old political system is a key solution.

To:  the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.
"The Petition of Choices will make our government more transparent and effective. Our government will let taxpayers choose where their money will go, by setting up accounts for different government departments.

For example, there will be social security account for elderly and economically challenged people; health account for hospital services, and education account for school and training, a transportation account for roads and bridges, as well as a defense account for military. Every quarter the government departments will have the mandate to publish a report telling taxpayers how much money they used and how it was allocated. Additionally, the report will estimate how much money the government will need for the following quarter and for which departments, however the taxpayers will deposit their money wherever they consider more important. There can be a pending account for overflowing funds from other accounts or for someone who has no choices. The pending account maybe used for the underfunded but valuable departments."

Ontario public sector $100,000 club grows by 19%

The people of Ontario and for that matter Canada pay our leaders to look out for us and our country and not for themselves.  Our money goes to our country and the people who support it, who gave our leaders the right to take our money for their personal gains and have the gall to justisy to us that they are doing a good job and deserve it, while in the next breath there is no money and they need more from the average person.  If I own my own company and made my own money for myself, yes I should have a yearly salary of what ever I want, but Mr. Govrnment you did not own this Canada, we do, and we should be telling you how much your positions are worth and by your track records, you owe us, we don’t owe you.

Pay increase in some federal crown corporation has gone through

When is “enough” enough? Why doesn’t the conservative government roll back the 50%-70% pay increase by management of crown corporations like CMHC in 7 years. Just look at the eye popping increases at CMHC.If there is any doubt get the payranges under ATIP.

Why?

Why does Dalton McGuinty think it is somehow OK to spend this kind of money on salaries?  I recently visited the Ottawa.ca site and had a look at the careers section.  A job for a "cook" (under CUPE 503 rates) pays $25.90/hour.  I looked on the jobbank.gc.ca site for "cook" jobs and found that most of them paid between $10-15/hour.   Some of them were "chef" jobs which should always pay more than a "cook" position, but even ALL those jobs were significantly lower than the $25.90/hour offered.

Why do we allow these unions to keep a choke-hold on our tax dollars?  Why Dalton, WHY???!!

Canada's Federal Debt

The federal government is adding $88 million a day to our debt. At this rate, the $105-billion in debt repayment between 1997 – 2008 will be wiped out this year. Support our campaign for a federal balanced budget law and help us STOP this clock.
