Contact MPs to end the long-gun registry
Private Member's Bill C-391 faces another hurdle on September 22. A committee of MPs examining the bill before the summer recess passed a motion to kill the bill. The motion to kill the bill is scheduled to be voted on in the House of Commons September 22nd.
Unless at least 11 of the 22 opposition politicians -- 12 News Democrats, 8 Liberals and 2 Independents -- that previously supported Bill C-391 in second reading vote to oppose this motion on September 22nd, efforts to end the long-gun registry officially go back to square one.
What you can do
1. Contact the Eight Liberals:
Leader Michael Ignatieff has "whipped" his MPs telling them to support the registry or face discipline. Please contact them and encourage them to stay the course or the very least, remain absent for any votes. Most Liberals cite police chief support of the registry as a reason to change their vote. Please see these two articles that address that issue:

2. Send an email to Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff:
Tell Mr. Ignatieff you want Liberal MPs to be able to vote freely on this issue and not forced to vote against it.

3. Contact the 12 New Democrats:
Unlike Michael Ignatieff, Jack Layton is not "whipping" (read: threatening) his caucus -- although the majority of New Democrats support the wasteful long-gun registry and are intensely lobbying their colleagues.
Like the Liberals above, please contact these MPs and encourage them to stay the course.

Canada's Federal Debt

The federal government is adding $88 million a day to our debt. At this rate, the $105-billion in debt repayment between 1997 – 2008 will be wiped out this year. Support our campaign for a federal balanced budget law and help us STOP this clock.
