Mystery $160 million expense for Manitoba Hydro
$160 million and counting – that’s the tab picked up by Manitoba Hydro for Aboriginal bands’ legal, consulting and “community costs” for the Wuskwatim, Keeyask and Conawapa dams. Allegations have been made by band members that consultants are taking advantage of the process and that some of the funds have been misused. In this news clip by APTN, the CTF’s Colin Craig calls for full disclosure as to how the $160 million has been spent.
Below, Solange Garson alleges that consultants are providing plasma TVs, X-boxes, and even new fridges to people who attend the meetings. These people immediately leave, but are counted as having endorsed Manitoba Hydro's proposals. Garson and Colin Craig of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation both want an independent forensic audit done to look at how the money was spent.
