Phase out school taxes

School taxes are unfair form of taxation that does not take into account ability to pay - that's why we've been campaigning to have them eliminated!

Think about it - if you lose your job tomorrow, your personal income taxes  drop off, but your school tax bill will still be there waiting for you.

Similarly, a business that is bordering on bankruptcy won’t have to pay any business income taxes, but it will face a hefty school tax bill; that can sometimes be the nail in the coffin.

As school funding is a provincial responsibility, Saskatchewan should do what provinces in Atlantic Canada do and pay for K-12 public schools entirely through provincial revenues. Phasing out school taxes would also help Saskatchewan compete with Alberta and B.C. which have much much lower school tax rates.

Since 2003, we have delivered over 17,000 petition signatures to the government on reducing school taxes. Over the same period, the province has reduced school taxes by increasing its share of school funding - from 39% to 66%. Let's keep the momentum going!

Sign our petition and tell your friends about this campaign. As Saskatchewan continues to boom, phasing out school taxes should be a top priority for the government!
