MB: Raise the Basic Personal Amount

Every time the Manitoba government raises the minimum wage, guess what businesses do? Yes, they have to pass those higher labour costs on to you the consumer by raising prices.

Thus, the government’s actions have the unintended consequence of hurting low income people – such as those who were earning just above the minimum wage and didn’t see a wage increase, but now must cope with higher prices.

A better way to help not only low income Manitobans, but all Manitobans, is by raising the “basic personal amount” – this is the amount of money you can earn each year before paying income taxes. As you can see, the Manitoba government starts taxing people at one of the lowest earnings levels in the country - just $8,634!

Join our push to get the government to focus on raising the basic personal amount to at least the federal level rather than raising prices through the minimum wage hikes.
