Of all the pics. I have seen

Of all the pics. I have seen with regards to poor living conditions on your reserve I have not noticed a fence keeping you locked in. Take some responsibly as a parent & move your loved ones to a populated area further to the south where you can enjoy the piece of watching your family live with other cultures. It is here if you really want it. If we Canadians have it so much better , please come & join in with our prosperity of the good life. It is all here for the asking & the gov't will pay your way to help make it happen.
Ps...there is a catch if you want the good life?
It is called paying taxes. :)

um

my name is kaila and im 13 years old and even i know know that they wouldnt move to our community because we are so different.
yes the living conditions would be better, but you have to realize: WHY? why should those people trust us?? all we have done to them is betray them. We would promise them emty promises and then break them.

Late back, our goverment promised to take their kids to a school and look after them and make sure they were well and feed. That was a lie! in those schools they starved the children and tried to take all the indian out of them. If the child would die, the family would never know, they just knew that their child never came back.
thats one example of how we hurt them.

Have you ever heard of shannen's dream?
if not , go here and learn about it :
http://www.fncaringsociety.com/shannensdream/

Shannen was my age when she stood up to the goverment, saying that she wanted a school. have your kids ever begged for a school? Shannen was a leader of many for this school because all of their school were horribley infected with mold and they were just portibles.
They goverment kept pushing back , saying ' we need to run more tests'
finally, after 6 years, they said um no we arent doiung it.

The goverment is stupid and they need help

misuse of funding

I'm a first nation person and i would say there's a lot of curruption going on Reseves due to the power handed down to leaders of first nation , and i can also say that its not just us that has problem , there are a lot of consultants making more more then any of us Ex: one consultant who comes in to do the books on first nation for one day they get paid $10.000 just to do the books

Ok now the truth will now bw known its not the people its our leaders thats making a whole lot of money , i used to work for the health centre's up north and i only made about 500 dollars every two weeks.......

liberals

Did Bob Rae just say that the government was responsible?
Open your eyes, or actually just be honest Bob,you know we cant monitor how there(actually taxpayers) money is spent that would be rascist.Come on,this is Canada...

Attawapisat

I'm so fed up with the injustice and lack of responsibility shown for the hard earned tax dollars that are taken from every taxable Canadian Citizen each year to be blatantly misused in this way..It is beyond my comprehension.I'm a pensioner.. part of the 'middle class' that is being taxed to death while millions are being given to just ONE Indian Band who seem to have little regard for the rest of the Canadian people who 'tiredly' support them. We have a diminishing middle class in this Country....when we're gone...who is going to pay the high salaries to Gov't Officials...who'se going to support the Indian Bands ....I've driven through many Reserves and it never ceases to amaze me that they chose to live in their own garbage....not all of them, but for those who do...they cast a long shadow over the few who don't....if every Indian Band in Canada is receiving this kind of money...what in hell are they doing with it? It's time for every Indian Band across this country to account for the money they receive....this should cause no embarrasment to anyone who has nothing to hide....as tax payers we are entitled to know how our money is being spent.....I have some money in my RSP's which I have to start drawing on this year, and pay more taxes...I'll be 71...how long will I live? Will my health hold out? We have Government cuts to our Health Care... our Education...our Country has food banks in every city town and hamlet..with people unemployed...the people of Attawapiskat get more in one year than I have left to live on for the rest of my life..the money given them could be put to good use for people struggling and trying to make ends meet.. not just waiting for another handout...something is dreadfully wrong here...get to work Ottawa...do what you're paid and elected to do ..stop yelling and screaming insults at one another...do SOMETHING.....

Attawapisat and all reserves in Canada

It is way past the time that all these billions of dollars to all reserves needs to stop. Also it is time for the Indian act and all relevent acts etc. to be recinded. The working tax payers of Canada do not owe these moder Indians anything, our debt to the past generations( if any debt ever existed) is long ago payed. Unless these well mixed races who still claim status are made to join the 21st. century and the real world and make their own way as we all have to, this welfare 1st. nation will never see their true potential as Canadian citizens, we are not doing these people any favors doing what we are now. When does this ongoing farce ever end, we the tax payers need this 11/12 billions of dollars for our own working poor and our own Canadian health and welfare just for starters. As pogo said, I have seen the enemy and it is us.

CORRUPTION

There is a lot of corruption on most reserves. But no one is ever charged or goes to jail. And so the corruption continues.

There is no magic answer that

There is no magic answer that will resolve the mulitude of issues facing communities such as the one currently in the spotlight. Certainly an economic base should be a primary focus for any community coupled with a skilled workforce within the community ready, willing and able to contribute the necessary labour required. I am of the view that it would be helpful to extend property rights to individuals on such reserves with each adult person having the capacity to borrow against the asset (in this case the family home. Perhaps a mechanism could be developed wherein the band could share in income derived form royalties as a result of resource development within the region.

advice

I would suggest a governmental intervention without giving money to the Band. They should make their homes, school and a hall, sports object, cinema theatre or club with television, themselves on the model UN is using in Africa and it is working. Send in engineers technicians and an accountant, and some skilled workers if there are none among Attawapiskat Indians. The Government should supply materials, surveys and pay the Indians to work if they want to earn something more and to make a better future for their children. First they should make the water supply. If there are no skilled workers they will become skilful working with the engineers and skilled workers from other parts of Canada. The band and the should give the engineers and technicians a permission to stay in their reserve at least 2 years. There should be a counterpart to the engineer or the manager of the project, and a person who can translate if that is needed.I don't think that ready houses would help. When you work to get something you are proud of it and of yourself. The sports will help the young ones. They will need later on some help with music and dance which would be helpful, too.I wish you all the best! S.

ATTAWAPISAT,

WHEN THERE WAS NO SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN MY HOME COMMUNITY HUNDREDS OF FAMILIES HAD TO TAKE A LOSS AND RELOCATE TO A MORE PROSPEROUS AREA. I DIDNT WANT TO MOVE BUT NO AGENCY OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WAS WILLING TO COME IN AND PICK UP THE PIECES. THE SAD TRUTH IS THAT PEOPLE LIVE WHAT THEY KNOW, IT DOESNT MATTER HOW MANY MILLIONS OF THE WORKING CLASS' TAX DOLLARS THE FEDS FUNNEL IN THERE, IT WILL NEVER MAKE A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE TO THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE IN THE LONG RUN. WHOEVER POCKETED THE MONEY THE LAST TIME WILL POCKET THE NEXT WINDFALL TOO. THE FEDS DROPPED THE BALL THAT TIME BUT WHATS NEW, THEY'RE NOT ACCOUNTABLE TO THE PEOPLE IN ANY MANNER THAT HAS AN IMPACT ON THEIR POSITIONS, THEY DONT HAVE TO WORK FOR ANYTHING.
