Chief Sharphead of the Enoch Cree Nation in Alberta recently announced he was cutting his pay from $250,000 annually to a mere $180,000! A frustrated band member leaked documents to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation revealing that the average pay of the band council was $175,000, due to the fact they are allowed to set their own salary. It doesn't take a "sharp head" to milk this system.
CTF Prairie Director Colin Craig says NO politician should be allowed to set his own pay. He also laments that band members trying to get answers get the runaround from both band council and Indian Affairs. While all this is going on, most band members are on welfare making $12,000 annually and living in substandard housing.

There needs to be a grassroots mentality and accountability. Many people in the North are financially destitute.
