Charging inmates for phone calls?

According to a Leader Post story, the Saskatchewan government will start charging inmates in provincial jails for phone calls.

The move is aimed to help the province pay for the cost of increased monitoring of calls made by inmates. Good move Mr. Wall, it's nice to see the cost of increased monitoring will be passed on to those who are causing the need for it - a true user fee!

Slippery slope

Such an attitude starts down a slippery slope of paying for your own incarceration. I would be wary of this kind of attitude. However, I do agree with paying for phone calls and stuff not related to being in prison. I presume you agree.
