Fiscal restraint turned loonie

It's strain a gnat and swallow a camel. Through minor austerity measures, the federal government is saving $807 million this budget year, but spending $11.4 billion more than last. That's a ratio of 14 to 1. Canada doesn't need tax increases. We need fiscal restraint!

Already the federal debt is past a half-trillion dollars--a per-capita burden of more than $15,300. Visit DebtClock.ca for the current debt total, your personal share, and more background. Our media commentary, plan to balance the budget, and our petition can be seen on our Balanced Budget Campaign page.

Canada's Federal Debt

The federal government is adding $88 million a day to our debt. At this rate, the $105-billion in debt repayment between 1997 – 2008 will be wiped out this year. Support our campaign for a federal balanced budget law and help us STOP this clock.
