Alberta: MLA transition allowance calculations

As we get closer to the spring election as well as the MLA pay and perks review this winter, the CTF will be releasing the Transition Allowance (severance pay) calculations for the retiring or defeated MLAs.

However, we had a media request yesterday for a handful of the calculations.  The two stories can be found HERE and HERE.

Just to recap, based on a theoretical April 1, 2012 election, and based on the best publicly available information, the CTF has run some estimates (I would call them rough, but I'm pretty confident I'm pretty accurate here...)

updated: Ken Kowalski: $1,189,900

(I've also tracked down this old story from 1998 from the Edmonton Journal that suggests Kowalski could take home a $54,000 annual pension too.)

Ed Stelmach: $1,008,100

Barry McFarland: $709,500

Iris Evans: $698,700

Janice Tarchuk: $645,400

Richard Marz: $544,200

Lloyd Snelgrove: $513,000

Mel Knight: $513,000

Hugh MacDonald: $491,800

Kevin Taft: $405,500

Ron Liepert: $348,700

George Groeneveld: $312,200

Dave Taylor: $231,600

Harry Chase: $229,100

Broyce Jacobs: $147,200

If you sign our petition on the MLA pay review, we'll let you know when it's time to let the MLA pay and perks committee hear it.
