Open Letter to Regina's City Council - Re: Taxi Study
Previously, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) highlighted the Regina Taxi Study and the many problems with the report's recommendations.
Today, the CTF sent a letter (click here to view) to all members of council for consideration on the matter.
Given the report calls for the City to regulate the appearance of cab drivers, the age of their vehicles, the dispatch technology used by cab companies and a 467% hike in cab fees to the city, you can see why we recommended council reject the report. Hopefully they will listen.

The federal government is adding $88 million a day to our debt. At this rate, the $105-billion in debt repayment between 1997 – 2008 will be wiped out this year. Support our campaign for a federal balanced budget law and help us STOP this clock.

Taxi study
I don't see any justification for the 467% increase. This seems outrageous. What about a rationale and a breakdown? As for uniforms, it would be basic to have company ID, driver #, and safety certificate in a prominent place. Adding a code for basic dress would also be helpful so that foreign headdress would not be acceptable. Similarly scuffy jeans, etc. Taxi drivers are a frontline appearance of the city.
