Scott grew up in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, where he continues to live. A long-time CTF supporter, Scott worked as a speechwriter and public policy researcher with the Government Members' Research Branch in Edmonton before becoming the Alberta director. He is a graduate of the University of Alberta where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics.

Scott previously served on the Fort Saskatchewan Minor Hockey Association Executive and the Fort Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce Student Work Program Committee and is a founding and current member of the Fort Saskatchewan Urban Forest Committee. During the winter, Scott referees hockey in the Edmonton area.

Scott enjoys running, playing basketball, slo-pitch and golf.
