No Tax Dollars for NHL Arenas

Click here to download print version.

To the Premier and Prime Minister:

Whereas every single NHL arena built in Canada in the past two decades has been built with virtually 100% private funds (Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal);

Whereas considerable peer-reviewed academic research has shown that new arenas and stadiums do not create any economic benefits for a city, but merely shift economic activity;

We the undersigned call on the local, provincial and federal governments to refuse to provide public funds to help build NHL arenas for Edmonton and Calgary.

Canada's Federal Debt

The federal government is adding $88 million a day to our debt. At this rate, the $105-billion in debt repayment between 1997 – 2008 will be wiped out this year. Support our campaign for a federal balanced budget law and help us STOP this clock.
